Our ebay department became a reality in 1991 instituted by Major Sam Astin. Major Astin had done some labor for a local auctioneer and was intrigued by the field of antiques and collectibles. Previously, in 1989 he completed a 6 hour course of study entitled "Real, Fake or Reproduction" at the Center for Lifelong Education through The Williamsport Area Community College. Major Astin had the foresight for increased revenue for organizational operating expenses through ebay sales.
Upon set-up of the ebay department, Major Astin then appointed Major Bonnie Adkins as the director of the program. She retired in 2007 and Anastasia Carroll was appointed as director of the department.
We use ebay as a tool to make the most of the donations given to us by our supporters. Some items will be exposed to a broader international audience and sell for more money on ebay than at our charity auctions or in American Rescue Workers Thrift Stores.
This department also assists in the charity auctions that are held biannually. While we specialize in antiques and collectibles, we have sold everything from Pez dispensers to a kitchen sink - with the whole kitchen! All money received goes towards helping people in need through the American Rescue Workers programs and ministries.
